Original Mixed Media on Canvas | 10 × 60 inches
Happy Hearts is a celebration of color, joy, and the beauty of giving something unexpected a new life. A playful collection of hearts unfolds across a soft blue background, each one created from colorful pieces of paint carrying its own patterns, textures, and history.
The process begins in Carla Bank’s studio, where layers of paint naturally accumulate on the walls and work surfaces as she creates her paintings. Instead of discarding this dried paint, Carla has collected it over many years. The pieces are carefully peeled away, then individually selected for their colors and patterns, hand-cut, layered, and arranged to create each heart.
This is the same distinctive process used in Carla’s Mermaid Tail Collection, transforming remnants from years of painting into an entirely new work of art. No two paint fragments—and therefore no two hearts—are ever exactly alike.
At 10 × 66 inches, its long, narrow format makes Love in Layers especially beautiful on slender walls, between windows or doorways, at the end of a hallway, or in those unexpected spaces where a traditional-size painting simply doesn’t work.
Colorful, dimensional, and filled with history, Love in Layers turns years of creativity into one joyful piece about love, renewal, and finding beauty in what remains.
